An Experience of a Lifetime!

2019 YOUTH LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT COMPETITION

Cormac Savage from Saint Patrickís Grammar School, Downpatrick enjoyed an experience of a lifetime when, in February, he represented his school, the Rotary Club of Comber, and Ireland generally at Euroscola 2019 in Strasbourg.

The Youth Leadership Development Competition is one of Rotary Irelandís longest running youth programmes and it rewards young people with clear leadership potential based on their extra-curricular activities.

The chosen ones first visit Belfast where they meet with local politicians and business leaders.

Then they travel to Dublin for further meetings with leaders there. The highlight of the trip is to debate a variety of motions in the European Parliament in Strasbourg at Euroscola.

The competition is open to ages 17 and younger, and a series of interviews ensures that our country is well represented in Strasbourg Ė in fact, since the competitionís conception over 30 years ago, Irelandís representatives at Euroscola have excelled.

Cormac and his parents were recent guests of Comber Rotary and Cormac gave an excellent account of his experiences.
