A Great Afternoon’s Sailing for young sailors on Strangford Lough
A race for young sailors took place on Sunday 16th June around Gores Island just off the Quoile Yacht Club which was much enjoyed by all the entrants. The race was organised by Quoile Yacht Club whose Annual regatta had been held the previous day and attracted forty boats, the highest number to date not only from the Quoile Club but from all the neighbouring clubs based on Strangford Lough.
The Rotary Club of Comber sponsored the event and the Prizes, trophies and dry bags, were presented to the crews of the winning boats by the Club’s President Paul Molyneaux who remarked that “Comber Rotary Club was very pleased to be associated with this event. We have a long history of supporting young people in a variety of ways including Young Musician, Young Writer, and Young Leader competitions but this was the first foray into the world of Sport “.
The weather was ideal for the race and afterwards a meal was provided by Quoile Yacht Club at the Clubhouse for all the crews and their supporters which rounded a great day’s sport.
