The Rotary Club of comber - News Detail
Paula McNulty from Action on Hearing Loss (AHL) was a guest speaker at the club’s meeting on Monday 16th September held in McBride’s Restaurant in Comber.
The members were given an overview of Hearing Loss today including its increasing prevalence as the population ages but also in younger people as a result of excessive noise exposure on a recreational basis! The increasing effectiveness of Hearing Aids was highlighted and how these could be accessed.
Members were most interested in the Clinics provided by AHL in many centres which provide support and advice including locally in Newtownards and Donaghadee. It was agreed that there was a clear need for a similar service to be made available in the Comber area and Ms McNulty promised to take this message back to her Headquarters in Belfast.
The Audiology services of the NHS are very stretched and the AHL was seen to be providing a badly needed additional service to those with Hearing deficits.
Following her talk Ms McNulty was thanked by Club President Denis Boyd and advised that in line with Rotary International’s aim of helping make connections of all types the club would be very supportive in the setting up of a Hearing Loss Clinic in any way possible.
